First Project of the Year, DONE!

It’s been a long time since I’ve tackled a project like this. I used to change things around and re-decorate and stuff a lot. In recent years the thought of doing anything hasn’t really inspired me to action. So, when I got the urge to take on the dogs’ room I thought I’d better act before I lost the motivation.

I’ve had the Sheltie’s crates (where they sleep and eat), spread somewhat helter skelter throughout the house. It really bugged me. The obsessive/compulsive side of me wanted it better organized, but I couldn’t figure out how to fit 5 crates into one room nicely. Twist already slams himself into the closed wire door about once a week trying to get to his crate quicker. LOL Plus, I’m not much more coordinated than Twist and the thought of 5 open/swinging doors in one room presents quite an obstacle course for all of us.

So…I’ve been eyeing these Pet Gear Other Door crates and I love the design of the “garage door” that folds up into the top. I finally gave in and bought them. Then I decided that the room wasn’t nice enough for the new crates, so I pulled everything out and repainted in there too.

I have to say that I’m absolutely one of the worst people for breaking in the middle of a project to take pictures, so there aren’t very many before, and during pictures. Sorry. You’ll just have to imagine that there were three mismatched wire crates under that one window one the short wall, and a canvas ex-pen for the pups along one of the other walls. I still haven’t decided whether to put it back in there or not.

Here’s my favorite picture of Dare checking out the new room. Hehe, she’s such a cutie. :-) I still have a bit more to finish up. I need to buy a new light fixture, get some new window shades and then finally replacing some of the old pictures on the walls with newer ones, but all in all, it’s done. Yay!!!

Goodbye 2009!

GOODBYE 2009…FULL SPEED AHEAD TO 2010!

Another year has come and gone. It was a year packed with lots of memories. Some I’ll cherish forever, and some I wish I could forget. LOL Looking back though, I can honestly say that I’ve learned something from all the experiences, both good and the not so good.

Dare 6 month pictures

Dare’s six months old now. She is looking more and more like her daddy. I bathed her and took some pictures today while I had the glue cleaned out of her ears, but we’ll get them glued back down later on today. They seem to be tipping nicely. :-)

Dare’s 1st Snow

Finally, here are the pictures of Dare’s first experience with the snow. The first four are from a couple weeks ago when we got the first snow, and the rest are from yesterday and today. Enjoy!

This one cracks me up because you can see her steamy breath as the ball drops out of her mouth.

Catching Up

I really don’t know where to even start. I have good news, training updates, and lots of photos to share.

First, the good news. Over 2 months have passed since Layla came up lame. I have to admit, the pessimist in me had begun to give up on her ever being sound again as time the weeks and months passed. However, last Saturday I thought that she looked sound. Everyone that’s seen her agrees! I haven’t seen her limp for a week now, and I have weaned her off the anti-inflamatory meds and she still is doing great. Woot!!! :-)

We have the next couple of months off of trialing, so I hope to take advantage of that time to focus more on training.

DARE: I am working on foundation skills for obedience and agility with Dare and she’s doing great. Her beginning heelwork is coming along really nicely. We are also working on her “wait” and “stays”. Her “sit” and “stand” are great, but “down” remains her least favorite signal. LOL Lately we’ve been working on “right” and “left”. She prefers “right”, right now. I’m have been able to transition it from how I started with her facing me, to having her walking on either side and still turning. Next I want to transition it to going through the jump standard, (without the bars up) and turn either direction. Honestly, I don’t know that I’ll ever actually think fast enough to get a “right” or a “left” out when I’m running a course, but it’s fun to train anyway.

LAYLA: I just got the new One Jump, Two Jump DVD from Clean Run and if Layla stays sound, I hope to start working through the skills in that DVD with her. It will be a nice winter project. I’m also still working on her Novice Obedience. It was so fun to be able to work with her on some Obedience the other day. She is such a cutie!

TWIST: Twist is still working on his Open Obedience. I really hope that by next summer he’ll have his CDX.

RAVEN: I had every intention to start re-training her A-Frame, but the weather changed on me too fast. :-( I’m afraid that all the agility equipment is going to have to come in the barn next week to be stored for winter. I’m sure that we’ll figure out something else that we can work on that can be done in the barn or house.

Last but definitely not least, I have pictures of Dare’s first fall and first snow. I’ll post them separately though, since this post is getting to be pretty long already.

Pictures From Prescott

On the way home from DOCNA Championships we decided to take the scenic route for once and just take our time. Here’s some pictures from one of the lakes that we stopped at. It was gorgeous. The pictures don’t do the scenery justice, but the dogs were more important. LOL

DOCNA Championships

We’re back! DOCNA Championships were a lot of fun! Zoe did fantastic. She ended up taking 1st place in Traditional Gamblers and her trigility team took 1st place. She took 1st place in both Rd. 1 and 2 of Standard and again 1st place in the Standard Finals. She was in 1st place after Rd. 1 of Jumpers, Rd. 2 I totally had a brain glitch and forgot a loop of the course. That took her out of the finals for Jumpers. In the big class for the Nationals…North American Challenge, she took 2nd place Regionally and then the next day her score held up to maintain 2nd place Nationally! She had a fantastic weekend. Flowing courses, nice people, great judge, beautiful ribbons, and even a little warmer weather than we’ve had here at home. Who could ask for more?

Here is the video of Zoe’s NAC run and then a picture of Zoe and her ribbons and then of all the girls…

A Year?!

I wouldn’t believe it if I didn’t have the calendar sitting in front of me, but Layla is a year old! Time just seems to fly by when you have a puppy. With Layla, though, I think it’s been even harder to keep track of, since she never seemed to grow up. She is now smaller than Dare at 14 weeks. To us, I think she’ll always be the “baby” because she’s so tiny.

Anyway, here are some new pictures of Layla that I took while I was up at my parents farm.

Obedience Trial Update

As usual, it’s taking me about a week to get settled back into routine after being out of town. I meant to post sooner, but never had the chance.

Twist was entered in three days of Obedience this past weekend. Unfortunately, he didn’t qualify any of the days. The good news was that each day he did better. On Sunday he had finished all the exercises and was qualifying and actually in first place with a 191 when we went back in the ring for our stay groups. Then it happened. Right as we walked into the ring, (hadn’t even put the dogs in the sit yet), he squatted and pooped in the ring. Agh! That’s never happened to me before. So, we were eliminated and there went his Q. :-( All in all though, I was really pleased that he was doing the exercises, and that he was holding his focus for three days straight. That’s a big accomplishment for Twist. I think that the next time he competes, he’ll qualify for sure. A friend of ours took these pictures of Twist for me. I just love them.

Dare also went along just to have the experience of traveling out of town and being at the trials. She did great. I couldn’t have been happier with her. Here are some pictures of her on a walkway that runs along the Snake River and the Falls.

Id Falls Obedience trial

Anyway, it was a great trip. I hope we get to go back again next year! It’s one of my favorite trial sites to visit.
