We’re Going to Camp W!

I haven’t posted about this before now because I wanted to make sure that our registration had been accepted first. I finally got the email confirmation that I’d been waiting for…yesterday! So, the good news is we’re going to Camp W in Lake Tahoe again this year in September! Woohoo!

We got to go back in 2007 and we had a fantastic time. I took Twist and Zoe with me that year. It’s just a camp where you have the option of trying out a ton of different dog sports, like herding, obedience, agility, flyball, tracking, lure coursing and carting. Or, you can just choose to take absolutely gorgeous hikes, relax on the beach, do crafts…well you get the picture. It’s a no pressure vacation with the dogs! Did I mention that the food is great too?! :-)

These are some pictures from camp with Zoe and Twist. Now the big decision for me is which dogs or dog to take?

Layla’s Charm

The other day we were visiting one of our favorite Sheltie blogs, Reilly the CowSpot Dog. If you haven’t already, you should drop by and read all about Reilly’s adventures! http://cowspotdog.blogspot.com/

Reilly’s mom had found these great little Sheltie Charms on one of their adventures, and she was sharing three of them with some of their readers. How fun is that? Well, we had a nice suprise in the mail today, a super cute card with Reilly on it, and the Sheltie charm!
After looking at the charm, I’m pretty sure that they must have modeled the super short sheltie legs after little Layla herself. LOL

I had to take a picture of the fantastic card that Reilly sent and the charm, and then I couldn’t resist taking a quick picture of Layla’s short little legs. Isn’t there quite a resemblance? Hehe, I guess being short is “charming”. Sorry, just couldn’t help myself!

Surprise! More Snow…Lots More Snow!

We were supposed to be going to Salt Lake today to train with the dogs, but those plans have changed now! We got up to 9 inches of snow this morning and it’s still coming down. I think this might be the most snow we’ve had from one storm all year. Bleh! Just when everything had melted and the mud had dried out so we could play outside again, here we’ve got another batch of snow. LOL (Glad I resisted the urge to haul the agility equipment back out into the field)

I guess this just means that we’ll get another chance to take more pictures of the dogs playing in the snow this year. But for now, we’re staying in where it’s warm and watching from the window.

Here’s what it looks like outside at our place.

Sheltie Family Picture Outakes

So, I thought that Layla’s “wait” had come along far enough to test it out on some group pictures. I was wrong. LOL Here’s some of the outtakes.

“Did you see her drop something?”

Hmmm…wonder what I’m missing behind me?

Woops! We’ve lost someone…..LAYLA!

Wait, wait, there she is! She’s back, but not for long…

Layla says: “I’m outta here! I’ve got much better things to do than sit and wait for you to snap my picture.”

We’ve obviously got a ways to go before she’s going to make group pictures an easy task again. LOL

Watch Out World!

LOL Watch out world! Up till this weekend Layla has not been able to jump on our furniture. When we went up to Barbara and Jim’s house on Thurs. night though, she just made herself right at home on their couch, hopping on and off like she’d been doing it forever. When we got to Cynthia’s house she did the same thing, playing with Muffit and Tatum. Well, last night when we got home, I was suprised when I sat down on the couch and was joined shortly by my little shorty girl. Hehe So, watch out world, she thinks she’s pretty big now!!!

Walking in Winter

We’ve been walking as much as possible this winter to keep everybody busy. I thought I’d post some of the pictures from our walks. It cracks me up because on nearly every walk, Penny and Zoe end up together, Raven has Layla hot on her heels, Twist and Lucy head off to make their own trails, and Rogue stays with me.

Feast or Famine

My husband and I have owned and operated our own business in the past, so I know that self-employment is usually a matter of feast or famine when it comes to money and spare time. Having more time at home with my dogs was the main reason that I decided to open the boarding kennel last year. The problem is that when I have spare time, it’s because the kennel isn’t busy, and when I actually have money, my time is gone. Sure wish there was a way to coordinate the two better, but I don’t think there is. LOL Hindsight is 20/20.

In the meantime, November and December are probably the two of our busiest months for boarding dogs because people are traveling for the holidays. So, that’s good, but now I’m ready for things to slow back down a bit. I’m pretty tired of spending hours chiseling poop out of the snow, and then even worse is trying to chisel it out of the ice that we’ve had when the snow melted down and then refroze. It’s really a chore, and I personally can’t wait for warmer weather and easier clean up around here. On the other hand, I’m grateful that business was good this year, and it looks like it’s definitely picked up from last years baseline.
