More of Layla Weaving

I went out yesterday and took another short video clip to show where we’re at with training of Layla’s weaves now. I’ve taken the more visual grid guide things off the poles, except at the entries at both ends. I replaced them with guide wires, and now I’m taking the guide wires down little by little. You’ll see they are attached to one pole each, but no longer forming a complete guide. Next I’ll be taking those down. Hopefully the weather keeps on cooperating long enough that we can get to that point before we get snow again. I’m still working on me being on both sides of the weave poles, and running ahead of her and behind her, but this clip is short and I just don’t have the patience at this point to do all the fancy editing and stuff that a lot of you do with your videos. So, it just shows her going through one time, one way. Oh, and as a little side note, I do see that my stick in the ground weave poles are starting to look like they are about ready to fall over too. I may have to move them if I get some ambition later today. LOL

Wow – Layla’s weaves are looking great! She goes through so fast! What tug toy are you using with her? She seems to love it.

The video editing is a drag and takes forever so I don’t blame you for not wanting to do it! :)

    Thanks Ricky,
Layla is tugging on a jackpot bag. It’s just a fabric bag with a handle and a velcro closure so that you can put treats in it. I love them, they work great for tossing and tugging like a toy, but also are nice to be able to use as a food reward too.

That’s nice of you to say Julie. I did take a couple of the wires of tonight, and she’s doing fine as long as she’s not trying to speed up to race me. If she got going too fast though…she’d skip poles. I think we’ll just keep working it at a slightly slower pace and hopefully we’ll be able to get rid of the rest of the guides and then we can increase the speed again.

I never edit videos or photos (other than cropping). I use them as is!

She looks great on her weaves! What’s the best way to work on distance for weaving? Ace doesn’t do so well unless I run right along side him. Should I just work in small steps and slowly get further ahead of or behind him? I’ll try using a ball as a reward :)

    Lindsay,

I think it’s a really vital piece of training weaves to be able to vary your location in relation to the dog because it’s rare you find yourself in the perfect position when you are running a course. I think you’re on the right track to just vary your location slightly at first, and then add more and more distance. Have fun and let me know how it goes. :-)

Thanks Dawn. The mountains here really are beautiful. The dogs love walking up there.
