Layla’s teeth

If you have a weak stomach, and can’t stand the site of a little blood, I apologize in advance! For anyone else though…Layla had to go to the vet today to have some baby teeth pulled that just refused to come out on their own. If you’re like my husband you won’t appreciate these next pictures at all, but I couldn’t believe how long the roots were on these two canines. I just had to take a picture and share.

I think the roots are bigger than Layla is. LOL The next picture is of the two canines that we had pulled today beside a lower molar that she lost a few weeks ago.

Anyway, the good news is that the vet here let me be with her during the whole procedure, and it didn’t take long at all. In fact, our appointment was at 3:00 and that was less than a couple hours ago, and she’s already up and walking around and she was even barking at me a minute ago to let her outside to potty. She’s a tough little cookie!

  1. Wow! Thanks for posting the pictures Marie. Those are the longest roots for that size tooth I’ve seen in a while, which might explain why they weren’t coming out on their own. Ya know, we only had Layla for a couple of days before you agreed to “foster” her (yeah, like we didn’t see this coming), but I have a feeling of great pride for her and her toughness and intelligence.

  2. Lindsay,

They usually lose those teeth around 6 months, but hers weren’t even beginning to loosen up (no wonder with those roots) and the permanent teeth had already come in. She’s developed a slight underbite now, which I’m not sure whether it was related to the way the teeth were coming in or not. I really hope it goes away, but I have my doubts, since I think the bottom jaw is the last to stop growing.

  3. Hi Josh and Jess,

I was kind of curious about whether Layla’s would have come out on their own with time, but you guys are over a year now, right? So, Layla’s probably wouldn’t have come out on their own either. I hope that when Jessie does have hers removed that she has as quick a recovery as Layla did! :-)
