Layla, the Shetland “Sleepdog”

Our friends over at Josh and Jessie’s blog had the idea to post pictures that their mom caught of them sleeping. They invited everyone to search through their pictures to find some of their own to post. I knew exactly which picture I was going to post.

for some reason – pics of my dogs sleeping are the easiest to get! LOL it’s really the only time they hold still for a picture.

  • Lindsay says:

Haha! That’s great! I always try to get pics of the cats sleeping together or on very rare occasions, one of the cats curled up next to the dog. Somehow, I’ve NEVER managed to get a photo of this. The cats always move. I joke that they don’t want proof that they cuddle together.

  • SheltieJim says:

Gee, ya think she’s secure? That little girl really knows that she’s safe if she’s sleeping paws up without her tail covering the delicate bits. What a confident kid! (Not to mention cute…)

What a cutie! I wonder if most dogs like sleeping upside down? Maybe only the really really happy ones? :)

The photo of such dedication to sleeping makes me want to just go take a nap – with a smile on my face.

Thanks Josh and Jessie. I saw alot of those pictures and they were great! So that it’s an honor for you to say that Layla’s the funniest! :-)

  • Marie says:

    Christy,

Interesting you say that…I look back and I’ve only got a few pictures of each dog sleeping, while I have tons of others. Maybe I’m so tired by the time they actually go to sleep that I’m too lazy to get back up and get the camera. LOL

    Lindsay,

I have one picture of our Border Collie, Maddie and Max, our Russian Blue cat curled up next to each other. Both have long since passed away, but it remains one of my favorite pictures!

  • Marie says:

    Heya Jim!

Yeah, I think she’s pretty secure! The funny thing is that I snapped that photo the night she came home with us. She hadn’t even really had time to settle in…but she didn’t seem like she needed adjustment time either. LOL

You should have seen her driving down to the flyball tourney last weekend. She was sleeping in her crate upside down, just like in the picture and her little paws were bouncing in the air as the car hit bumps. It was the funniest thing. I wished I’d have had my camera then!

She really is just a gem! I’m so thoroughly enjoying her! :-)

  • Marie says:

    Oooohhh Tatum,

Layla says hurry back down so you two can play some more. She says to bring Muffit next time too!

  • Marie says:

    Hi Dawn,

I don’t really know the answer to your question. I do know that it’s a very vulerable position to lay in, so the dog definitely isn’t worrying about anything if they are sleeping like that. Layla tends to sleep like that alot. Makes me smile!

  • Marie says:

    Hi Fisher,

Thanks for dropping by! Yeah, I have to admit, looking at that picture makes me want to climb right back under the covers for a couple more hours of snoozing too!

  • Marie says:

    Astrid,

Glad you caught us as we were heading out the door. Sure was nice to see everyone, and get to watch flyball in person for the first time!
