Anyone who knows me and my crew knows that I’ve never had a Sheltie with those lovely little tipped ears like they are supposed to have. Zoe, (it has been pointed out to me) has quite large ears, one of which stands straight up and one of which has a bit of a tip. Not that I didn’t give it a try when she was a puppy to get them to tip. Lucy had other ideas though, and would promptly chew on anything that we used in her ears and make a bigger mess of the situation. So…oh well, Zoe’s ears are big, but that’s just all the better to hear me with. LOL Twist and Rogue both have prick ears with not even a hint that they’d consider tipping. Raven started out with lovely little tipped ears and then finally decided…much to my dismay to try to imitate Jessie our Aussie’s ears. And now Layla. So far, here is what we’ve seen with her ears.

We started out with two tipping ears…

Then she went for the left ear being prick and right ear tip…

To both being prick…

To right ear prick and left ear absolutely flopping Raven style…

And today, we’re back to both ears prick again! LOL What will tomorrow bring…
They like to keep us on our toes guessing dont they? She is adorable no matter what her ears are doing.

Lora,
Yeah, I don’t have any reason to fight with trying to get a perfect ear tip on my dogs, and it cracks me up how much they change from day to day at this stage.
Christy,
Yep, I agree, she’s a doll no matter what the ears are doing.
LOL that is too cute. I can’t wait to seeing what her ears do when she’s all grown up!

I have a friend who has a Malinois who has one ear that just will NOT stand up. She never pegged it or anything.. she decided she liked it that way.. She can move it and stand it up when she wants to, but 99% of the time she has one up and one down.
Regardless, your little darling is adorable no matter what her ears are doing!
Tipped or pricking ears – the ongoing saga!!!!
My dog Jessie’s ears were always floppy whereas in the end I had to glue Josh’s ears because he’d be wearing them up or down depending on his mood, weather, or whatever
They are now both down.
BTW – We spotted you over on Ricky’s blog. Would you like to be friends with us also?

Gosh she is so cute. I think she is even cuter now than when you first got her.
I didn’t even know what tipped ears were until I read this post. And I didn’t know that’s what shelties were supposed to have. Guess I’ve never thought about that before with all the loppy-eared dogs I’ve had.
Hi Josh and Jess!
Thanks for stopping by! Sure we love new friends! I think I’ve been seeing your comments on Sheltie Rescue of Utah’s blog lately too. We work with Barbara and Jim as much as we can. They do a super job helping the Shelties around here.
Heya Lindsay.
Yeah, she’s nearly impossible to resist! LOL We don’t really care what her ears do…
One of our best training buddies has Malinois. We think they are great!!! I don’t think I’ve ever seen one with anything but straight up ears. I bet it’s pretty cute. Adds character!
