ATV Jamboree

It’s definitely September in Sevier County. If there was any doubt all you would have to do is look at the road that runs in front of our house. You would see a steady stream of ATV’s driving by on their way to the trails.

Don’t get me wrong. It’s not that I have anything against ATV’s in general and I certainly think that people have a right to enjoy to scenery around here…as long as they don’t trash it. My gripe is that ever since this “ATV Jamboree” started up several years back we’ve been getting more and more and more people coming. When it first started the crowds of people were pretty much confined to the couple of weeks surrounding the actual Jamboree. Now, the ATV’s start to come as soon as the snow melts off the trails in the spring and doesn’t end till winter. :-(

One of the things I loved most when we moved here was walking the dogs on the trails, but now it’s getting more and more difficult to find times when they aren’t full of ATV’s. Anyway, that’s my little rant for the day.

That would bug me too! I don’t think that most ATV’ers have much respect for the open space!!

I agree, and unlike other off road type vehicles, these ATV’s can go practically anywhere that you can imagine. They don’t have to stay on nicely groomed trails, although they are supposed to be limited to certain designated areas. Good luck enforcing that!

Bleh… I don’t like ATVs myself. And I wish people would stay off the trails with them!

Cyn,

Well, I don’t like running into them on the trails because the dogs want to chase them, so it’s no fun to always have to be on the lookout for them…

I can certainly appreciate your concerns. I used to be “that” guy, who got slightly annoyed when ATV riders would use the access road behind our house on the way to the trails. Then I got one myself and can see both sides of the story. I think as long as people are respectful while riding through residential areas (use quiet mufflers or keep the speed and noise down) and they are respectful of the wildnerness and trails (tread lightly) it’s a great thing. Like anything, it only takes a few to ruin it for the rest.
