Training Went Well
Well, tonight was a good night for training with Rogue. We worked on her doing a few obstacles ending the sequence with the dogwalk. Randy was standing at the bottom of the dogwalk to put a treat on the target after she “hit it” with her paw.
Last night was the first time that we had both had time to work with her together in more than a week and when we tried this exercise, she was having difficulty staying on at the bottom with Randy facing her directly. So…I asked him to stand sideways, in the same spot and see if that made a difference. It did! She was able to come to the bottom and stay there till I gave her a release word. Just too much pressure too quickly, but at least we figured it out. Yay!
Tonight was better than last night. She had alot more confidence and her targeting wasn’t hesitant tonight, it was firm and purposeful and she even offered to “hit it” again before we could ask. I think with a few more repetitions I can ask Randy to move to different spots and even try facing her straight on again. I know I’ve probably said it before, but I really think that the training process is so fun! I am really enjoying watching her figure out that someone being on the course can be a good thing, not something to avoid like the plague! LOL
